Hello all!!
I am proud that we made it through Homecoming. You can tell I am still feeling the aftermath, it is late Thursday and I am just now getting to writing to you! No rest for the weary Cheer Coach!
Thank you to all of the parents who made the festivities of last week possible! The banquet and the flowers were amazing! I know how much all of that means to the girls and it really means so much to me that I have fabulous parents to make all of that possible. Last Friday is the LONGEST day of my school year, and it is the same for the girls. They all managed to stay upbeat and enjoy their Homecoming.
To my 11 Seniors- I hope it was the BEST Homecoming to date! I can't wait to see all of you on the field giving me a big hug when you come back to visit! You all are so dedicated and such great role models for your team! May your spirit live on after you graduate! LOVE YA!
Today is a JV Game. I am letting Coach Shantae let the girls know what to wear and such now, so she informed them yesterday.
Tomorrow we are playing CV at CV.
Wear to school- Jersey, skort, and Toms or cheer shoes. Hair is to be in a pony or half up half down WITH PINK BOW!
Wear to the game- uniform, hair in high pony braided with pink bow, cheer shoes. Bring liner, and jacket, and poms. (it's been getting cold! HOORAY!)
Report to the bus at 5. Game starts at 7.
I am having some issues with the girls being on time, and wearing the correct thing. Please help remind them that they are a part of a team, and their behavior reflects on their team members as much as it does on themselves. I have let them know that they will sit out a quarter of the game if they are wearing the wrong thing to school. I do not tolerate defiance.
Many of the girls have been unwell lately. I would like to clarify a few things. Girls will not get demerits for being sick. I DO NEED to be notified before the practice that they will be missing practice, or else they will get demerits. This is no different than when they will have a job and need to call in sick. I do not need them to attend practice when horribly sick. I cannot have them at practice with a fever, or something like Strep Throat that is highly contagious. Sickness spreads really fast! They need to be resting. If you feel they are well enough to practice they can come, provided they are not contagious or with fever. They also need to let me know when they need to sit down, take a break, or are hurting. Sometimes they don't, and it is hard for me to keep track of all of them. Please make sure they are resting when ill.
Academics come first. I have had many of the girls need to go to tutoring or stay after school to take a test. Please know that this is their priority at LQHS. They need to come to me and let me know when they need to do these things. I can also help them with their work, or talk to their teachers to work things out as well. Please let me know so I can help! Quarter grades are coming out and I do check them, as well as attendance. They need to be in class! It is so important that they are doing well academically. I remember what it was like to balance cheer and hours of homework. It was not fun, and I feel for them. So please make sure they are communicating with me. I may be only a cheer coach to them, but I am an English teacher as well.
Dress code is becoming an issue. I would like to inform you that tube tops, even with a bra under which is trying to be straps, are not allowed. A see through shirt with a bando or a bra under is not allowed. The girls must wear an actual shirt under these tops. Please help me to make sure that they are following dress code. The shorts seem to be getting shorter in general these days. Trust me! I see more than I need to in class daily. I cannot see what each girls is wearing every day, so please help me by making sure they are dressed appropriately. They are ambassadors for LQHS and they are known. They should be setting an example for the rest of the school.
Thank you for your attention to these matters, and I hope to see many of you tomorrow at the game! I apologize for the late note, I have had a few personal mishaps this week that has not allowed me the time to write until now.
Take care and GO HAWKS!
The purpose of La Quinta High School's Cheerleading program is to promote and uphold school spirit, support athletic teams, develop a sense of good sportsmanship among students, and facilitate a positive relationship with neighboring schools. I am looking forward to a great 2012-2013 Cheer Season! GO BLACKHAWKS!

Happy Homecoming Week!!!
With as much work as this week is for all of us to put on, I am proud to say we are almost half way there and ready to rock on Friday!

Friday is a very long and involved day for the girls and it is very exciting for them.

You will be dismissed from all of fourth period. Period 4 starts at 10:22. Be on the field ready to warm up then. Jewelry must be out at this point! As soon as I get there we will warm up. Coach Tae will be there too! I am so thankful for this, it will make everything run much more smoothly.
We will perform our routines for your school and then I will see you again after school.
For the game-
Be in the staff lounge upstairs in the main office at 4. We will have food provided by the Booster, and catered by Rubios. This is where you will get ready for the game, hair, make-up and so on as a team. You will get your flowers then as well.
Come in uniform, cheer shoes, Varsity- you will have a poof and hair down (Bring a pony holder for the game for stunts please or no one will stunt!) You will need at least 4 bobby pins for your wreath and 4 for your poof. Plan accordingly.

Remove all nail polish.
At 5:45 we will go to my classroom to retrieve the balloon banner that we have been working on already. (We still need help at lunch in my room all week.)

Before the game JV and Varsity will stand in a line for the National Anthem, and welcome the team to the field with the dance team.
JV will cheer with Varsity for the first half, then can go into the stands to be with their friends.
We should have some left over waters for the girls from the banquet but in case we don't I will need 1 case (24) waters on the field from each team. Varsity- Brianna DeLariva. JV- I will talk with you tomorrow. We have goody bags being made for the dance team, and the other team we are playing already. I don't think snack is needed because everyone will have just eaten an hour before.
Game starts at 7. ( I don't know about you, but I am already tired typing, and we are only at kick off! Whew!)
The Booster has purchased a pink bracelet and pink football for every football player, and enough for each girl to be able to throw into the stands for the fans in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are also putting pink balloons in the banner, and having pink ribbons on the Varsity girls' head wreaths. This has been so awesome, and I would like to thank them for their support in allowing us to become involved in such a worthy cause. Many of the football players are wearing pink socks, and laces, and gloves to help support the girls as well. It is really neat to see everyone coming together for the cause!
I sure hope I managed to get it all out... I am exhausted! Thanks for reading this long and tedious e-mail... I appreciate all you do for the girls and TO THE GIRLS- SIU! I LOVE YA!

All girls need to be there unless I have cleared them personally. Have them wear their uniform, Toms or cheer shoes, and hair as they like.
Next week is Homecoming! Get ready for a busy busy week! We will be having a Homecoming Pep rally Friday at school. There will be the traditional banquet just for cheer at 4 in the staff lounge that is catered by Rubios, and put on by the Booster parents. All of the girls get flowers to wear for the game, Varsity gets flower crowns, and JV gets a boutonniere. The girls and I also make a huge run-through banner as well. Booster is able to fund all of these important traditions if there is participation in fundraisers. I encourage you to think about this when our next fundraiser comes along. A big thanks to ALL parents involved in helping with next weeks’ Homecoming festivities.

Week 4 update- VIP!!
Hello again,
I was just told today that the frosh game that was supposed to be on Thursday has moved to Friday.
JV PARENTS AND CHEERLEADERS-
Please note the new report time is 3:30 FRIDAY. The game starts at 4. Please understand this was out of my control and I apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. I know Haley, Bailey, and Justine have conflicts and will not be punished for not being at the game. All of the other girls did not cite a conflict and should be there on time.
VARSITY PARENTS AND CHEERLEADERS-
We are in need of someone who can pick up 5cheer boxes and deliver them to the bin around 5:30 on Friday. They will need to be picked up before Hawks closes, I believe at 5, and brought to school Friday when the girls are all getting their boxes out of the bin. All of the parents who have been helping to transport are unavailable. WE NEED another volunteer to help. If you can please let me know ASAP! Te boxes needing pick up are those belonging to Marquee, Mackenzie, Kyrie, Jessica Smith or Brandy. It would be really awesome if one of those parents can pick up the boxes. We have done so much work thus far to get them all ready and are in need of help. Thank you in advance for volunteering for this task.
See you all soon!
Football week 4
Hello Cheer Parents!
I would like to say that I honestly cannot believe we are already in week 4 of the 2011-2012 football season!
Once again week three was a complete success!
The JV Cheerleader of the game was Maryfer for her dedication to being the best she can be on the sideline.
The Varsity Cheerleader of the game was Maria for her continued confidence and willingness to be a great leader for her team.
This week’s events-
THANK GOODNESS WE ARE HOME AND ON OUR OWN FIELD!
(If I ever see another yellow bus it will be too soon!)

Game starts at 5
Girls report to the field at 4 in uniform, cheer shoes, white socks, hair braided with bow in a high pony.

Friday Varsity Home vs. Arlington
Game starts at 7

Wear to Game- cheer shoes, all white socks, uniform, hair braided with high pony and bow. HAVE IT ALL DONE WHEN YOU GET THERE! No make-up or glitter on the sidelines. EVER!
We will be selling seat cushions at both games, Thursday at 5 and Friday at 7. The Booster Board is requesting that some JV parents help sell at the Frosh game on Thursday, and Varsity moms selling at the Varsity game Friday. I also need some girls to sell at the other teams game. If a parent or cheerleader helps the cheerleader will get 3 merits. Please confirm with me if you or your daughter plan to help sell so I can make a master list and let the Booster know. Thanks for your support and help!
I would like to send a big thank you out to Art Lambrose for helping with box repairs, a REALLY big thank you to the Van Winkle Family, and McNicol Family for helping to build 4 new boxes, and Lupe Leonesio, and Julie Kalman for their help in facilitating box repair. Without these parents, and the entire Board, we would not have cheer boxes this week! They really made it happen! A big thanks to the Board for facilitating fundraisers to pay for these expenses as well! THANK YOU ALL!!!
Please remind your daughters that I will be checking grades and attendance at each quarter. Progress reports are coming up already! If anyone falls below a 2.0 GPA they will be on Academic Probation from cheer. If anyone has an attendance issue I will speak with them individually as attending class should be their first priority. Also, many of the girls are wearing very short shorts. Can you, as parents, help me make sure they are following the dress code? Tube tops are not allowed either. Any infraction of the dress code will result in demerits.
Thank you for all you do, and I can’t wait to see all of you on OUR field this week!
GO HAWKS!

Hello there!
We have been working to get the Varsity cheer boxes ready for the first TRUE home game 9/23.
First I would like to send out a BIG thanks to the Booster Board for helping to expidite this process. Also, to Art Lambrose who is meeting me today and tomorrow to make repaires to the boxes, and to Val and Tony Van Winkle who volunteered to make 4 new boxes from scratch! THANK YOU ALL!!! I know it means the world to the girls to have their boxes ready for this game. We were anticipating the first home game being 10/21 and this is almost a month early!
We really need some parents to volunteer to come to the cheer bin, behind school on the basketball courts by the field closest to the field, after school on Thursday. We need parents to help facilitate the paint touch up, assessment of boxes, and to help Art Lambrose in any way we can to get the boxes done that day and ready to go to Hawks to have stickers replaced and such.
We REALLY need parents with a truck or trailer to help take boxes to HAWKS on Thursday 9/8. We should be done touching up by 4-4:30. If you have a truck or trailer and can transport please let me know ASAP how many boxes you can take and if you can help. If we can't get all the boxes that need to be fixed therei in this way then each girl/parent will be responsible for their own box.
The girls will get merits if you can come help. Thank you for your consideration in helping in this undertaking! Please get back to me ASAP!

Football Week 1
Hello there!
This is the first e-mail of the Football Season! I am so pumped for a great year! We had an awesome work week. I just cannot get over the talent, respect, and kindness this team has shown me these past few months! I am ready to showcase them to the rest of the community!
Each week I will e-mail information to all of you so you are fully aware of what is going on. Each team will be addressed, and I will put the information on the cheer blog as well. It is not only the parents responsibility to know the information but the girls must also be attentive to the information for the week. I will not entertain the excuse of "I didn't know."
Monday- the girls are to wear their uniform, cheer shoes, or sparkly Toms, hair as they like to school
Monday and Tuesday from 3-5 will be Varsity practices until further notice.
Monday and Wednesday will be JV practices from 3-5.
All practices in the mini-gym.
Thursday will be a JV game.
Wear to school- Uniform, cheer shoes, or sparkly Toms, hair as you like
Game is a home game but at Indio. It starts at 6. Please report to the bus in front of the gym at 4:30. If you are not early you are late. You will be left!
Wear to the bus, hair in HIGH pony with bow, cheer shoes, all white socks, no bra straps showing, bring poms!
Friday is a Varsity game.
Wear to school- Uniform, cheer shoes, or Toms, hair as you like.
The game is at Los Osos High at 7:00
Report to the bus at 3:30. If you are not early you are late! You will be left!
Wear to bus- uniform, hair in high pony braided to the right with bow, cheer shoes, white socks. Bring Poms, liner, and warm ups. Varsity- just leave these items in your bag. If one person forgets and it is cold the whole team suffers.
We should be back around midnight. Please be ready to pick your daughter up because I cannot leave campus until I know each of them is safe.
Our football schedule is changing soon. It looks like we will have our field back much earlier than expected. We are getting organized to try and have the Varsity boxes ready for this. This is great news, but I apologize in advance as the change as out of my control. I don't like last minute changes when I try to be organized with schedules and buses ordered... but I just found out today at our coaches meeting.
I usually send out a master list of who is ringing water and snack for the season to the games. For now I will pick 2 girls to bring water 24 bottles in an ice chest please) and 1 person on JV and 2 on Varsity to bring snack. An appropriate snack would be granola bars, chips, fruit, fruit snacks... in other words it does not need to be a buffet of expensive items.
Thursday JV game-
Justine and Jamie bring Water
Natalie Bergh bring snack
Friday Varsity game-
Solveig and Brandy bring Snack (14 of an item each since there are 28 of you)
Nikki and Lily bring water
It technically is a home game on Friday, so I will be discussing with the girls appropriate goody bag creation on Tuesday. When I type those notes I will send them to you and post them on the blog as well so you know.
Just a heads up- goody bags should not cost hundreds of dollars. Do not spend so much on these bags!
I was not anticipating sending this until Monday, but with the changes coming I wanted to give you ample time to know the information. I am getting ready for my year as a teacher tomorrow, and will be VERY busy next week. Please note any message received will be responded to as soon as I can. thus starts the juggle of being the teacher of an academic subject and a cheer coach!
Thank you for your attention to this information and I look forward to seeing all of you at the games!
GO HAWKS!!

Cheer Camp Bragging from Smithizzle!
Hello all!
I hope everyone is doing well and all of the girls have now had a chance to get some rest! I slept for over 15 hours, so I know many of them will still be recovering for a few days. Please let them know that rest is the first step to recovering their sore muscles. They did a lot of work the last few days!
I could not be more proud of the girls than I am right now. I can not stop thinking about what a great job they did at camp. I want to take a few minutes to let you all know of their accomplishments.
TSC was the best camp I have ever attended. The girls had FUN which I was very pleased with. Many camps don't emphasize the fun aspect of camp. TSC does. The girls had breaks throughout the day to bond, even with other teams, and to just dance and go crazy! With as much work as they were doing these activities kept them going! We performed our home routine on day 1 and both teams ROCKED! We knew we were not going to get our evaluation until the last day, I think I was more impatient than them, but I was confident they did well. JV placed FIRST and Varsity placed SECOND out of about 10-15 teams in each category! (Don't worry we have video of almost everything- Thanks to Staci!) We even had Meaghan on Skype for the performances, which was way cool!
They started learning a camp dance and a performance cheer which they would be evaluated on the next two days. The girls were assigned a private coach from TSC staff to help make changes to the routines and to add stunts to the cheer. Their evaluations went very well! I have to tell you about the dance evaluation. Both LQ Teams performed almost perfectly and received Game Ready blue ribbons. They were in a group with a JV team from another school. This team was very timid and nervous, and our girls cheered them on. After the first performance the other squad was very upset. Our girls went out of their way to cheer them on to try again, and cheered throughout the performance. They did perform and after LQ and this team played a cheer game together. LQ went out of their way to put a smile on the face of each of the other teams' girls. WITHOUT a prompting from any of our coaches. I have NEVER seen such kindness from any cheer team. I was so proud I almost cried. The group we have this year is truly the sweetest most caring group I could have ever hoped for. You should all be very proud of your daughter and the wonderful young lady she is! This was a wonderful life lesson for these girls, and I hope they can bring that experience back to LQHS and spread the kindness there!
Day 2 was very hard on the girls. There was A LOT of stunting. Our girls took it like champs and fought through to learn each skill. They were open to new techniques and skills. The stunting classes were superb. They really took the time to teach safe technique and the basics so that each stunt would progress from there. Our girls hit each stunt with ease and if they didn't they tried until they got it. They cheered each other on to success, and even cheered on other teams when they struggled. By the end of the day they were sore, and tired, but never gave up. I am so looking forward to getting back into practice with these new skills and really wowing our crowd next year! This team is one talented group of young ladies!
Day 3 is always the hardest. Everyone is tired, and cranky. No one gave up. Everyone stayed positive and encouraged others to keep their spirits high to accomplish their goals. I could see the energy fading, I know they stay up late after I tape them in at night, and they still fought through to continue to learn and progress. We had a Superhero dance party that night where we wore all pink. The girls had a blast dancing with other teams, and our Blackhawk even went to the party in costume! I could not help but laugh as I saw him being chased around the room by girls from all teams. I think he may have been the only mascot there!
The final day of camp was like none other I have ever experienced. By now I am sure you have heard, Bruce and Kris Jenner's daughters were at camp with us. As well as Jamie Foxx's daughter. I had never experienced this. Our girls really understood to let them have a normal camp experience and not harass them with requests for pictures and such. On the final day the Kardashian clan was present to watch the performances. I hate to brag but, Kourtney Kardashian's baby was quite taken by our Blackhawk. Maybe he will end up on the reality show. That is pretty cool I must admit!
Varsity performed both the cheer and the dance, and JV performed the dance. Both teams placed in each category bringing home a trophy! JV also was awarded Most Improved Team, and Varsity was awarded an Outstanding Team award! There are a few individulas I must recognize for their stellar performance at camp as well-
(these were preformed in front of the WHOLE Camp)
There was a jump-off- we had Courtney Carnavale, Ally Jenkins, Lindsey Klein, and Jessica Smith participate. All did AMAZING! Courtney won for all of the JV camp, and Jessica made it to the finals for Varsity.
For All- Stars-
Varsity- Whitney, Kayla, Solveig, Alex, Brooke, Lindsey, Jessica Smith, and Desirae performed a jump, the dance, and the cheer.
Brooke, and Jessica were named over all All Stars winning $ Scholarships. Alex was deemed OVER ALL All Star for 11-12 graders winning the ultimate title in her category! GREAT JOB to ALL these ladies! Way to reresent LQ!
JV- Savannah, Courtney, Ally, Melanie, and Maryfer performed a jump, the dance and the cheer.
Savannah and Courtney won $ Scholarships and were named over all All Stars! Wonderful job TO ALL these ladies! It took a lot of courage to perform in front of such a crowd and to do as well as they did!
I am so proud of the girls for all of their accomplishments, both team and personal. Camp is a lot of hard work and they rose to the challenge and represented LQ in the BEST way possible! I have to recognize the Varsity Captains, Alex, Brooke, and Solveig as well- They encouraged the WHOLE team to bond, through activities each night, and in preparations for camp. Each girl was made to feel a part of the team and I believe much of this was from their planned activities, and gifts. Their experience has given them the know how to be able to make this camp the best it could have been. I am SO PROUD of them. GREAT WORK GIRLS!
A BIG Thanks to Coach Staci, Coach Shantae, Coach O'Grady, and Mrs. Crystal Gentry for helping me all week. I am so blessed to have the expertise I have this year assisting me with the program. Coach Shantae is an amazing addition to the program. The girls really bonded with her this week and I am so lucky to have someone assisting me who truly cares for the girls and the betterment of the program. The work she has done with both teams is AMAZING! Coach Staci is truly respected by the girls and her expertise has allowed the girls to be aspire to the greatness they have already achieved. I could not have survived camp without her! Coach O'Grady was instrumental in helping with each performance and stunt. I am lucky to have her help as she has much more experience in coaching than I. Mrs. Gentry is one of my best friends, and willingly went to camp to help out in being a chaperone. She took it like a champ! I could not have made it through the week without the encouragement and help from these wonderful women!
Thanks to all the parents who came to watch the performances yesterday and also to Debbie McNicol and Tonya Carnavale for getting my messages out while I was at camp! All of YOU are the backbone to this program. Thank you for your continued support and willingness to encourage your girls to become such wonderful young ladies!
I am glad I can type these words, because I certainly can't speak! I sound like a hoarse Demi More! Please be patient if you need to call me, I fear you may not hear me over the phone! I couldn't help but scream encouragements for each performance and during awards. I am the team's biggest fan, after all!
Thank you for allowing me to care for your girls this last week. I really do feel like they are my daughters as well, and care for them as such. Take care, and I hope everyone has a great 2 week break! I will be working on getting out the football schedule, organizing buses for those games, work week plans, practice schedules for next year, and more ideas to make this team even better!
To The Girls, I have to end with a- LOVE YA!
TAKE CARE!
Camp Update
Tomorrow the girls will be getting a packet of all camp information needed.
It is very important that all it is all read and understood by the parent and the cheerleader. Please have the waiver signed and brought to me on Monday prior to loading the bus.
I put in the last e-mail and blog that shorts are not mandatory for the car wash. I meant, shorts are not optional, they are absolutely MANDATORY. ALL girls must keep shorts on for the entire car wash. We must keep it classy ladies!
I will be handing out cheer shirts at the car wash so be sure to pick them up from me. You will get the size you ordered. I am really excited about the design! Also, you will be getting a drawstring backpack that is pretty awesome. As Ashley said last night, "We got swag." :-)
I am so very proud of these girls and actually looking forward to camp this year. Camp is always a bit difficult for me because it is so much work to get ready for such an important overnight field trip with 44 girls and one Blackhawk. This year I am excited about how this camp will be run with over 60 staff to help the girls and I just know they will come back with so many routines and cheers we will be so ready for a great year of cheer!
I will try to keep the blog and twitter updated at camp. I will buy internet if necessary at the hotel.
cheer twitter- www.twitter.com/lqhscheer
I believe you can see it even if you are not on twitter or following it.
I don't want to post the camp info now because I have my own personal information on their and obviously the girls whereabouts.
See you lovely ladies tomorrow! Be ready to work those camp routines and stunts!

Varsity Captains
Your 2011-2012 Varsity Captains are-
Solveig Danielson
Alex Lambrose
Brooke Reynolds
All three will share the responsibility equally, no one captain will be regarded as having a higher title than any other. This is the first time we will have 3 captains, and I know these three will do great!
They all have the ability to be great leaders and create a positive atmosphere for the program. I am proud to have coached them for the last 3 years and look forward to having one more year with them. This means I have to admit to myself that the Class of 2012 is graduating, and they are no longer freshmen. This will be the most difficult year for me because it will be my first class that I will have coached all 4 years. I could not be more proud of the Seniors, all of them, and know all of them will provide leadership and positive energy for their team and for JV as well.
Alex, Solveig, and Brooke- Congrats on making Captain! I could not ask for more talented, dedicated, and wonderful girls to lead their team this year!! LOVE YA!

Camp Shirts
I really appreciate the hard work the girls have been putting in these last few practices! They are looking great! We will definitely be using these routines next year after all of this hard work!
I have finalized the camp clothes. The 3 shirts will be $30. I have discussed how to handle paying for these with the Booster Treasurer Debbie. The Booster has agreed to use the money that is in each cheerleaders individual account to pay for the shirts. I must make it clear that the money being used was initially deposited in the account for cheer camp in the $500 deposited in may to pay for buses and extras for camp. This money will be used to the bus to and from camp and the shirts. There will be an extra balance required but the Booster agreed to pay for that with general funds. This way I do not need to collect extra from you now. If you have any questions please let me know! The shirts are really cool. I am quite proud of them actually!
I need to remind you of the Car wash next weekend. I will have extra tickets at practice tomorrow. Please pre-sell as many as possible to make this car wash a success!! I also wanted to remind you of our LQHS Cheer carwash dress code. Bathing suits are ok under clothing. Please wear cheer colored cheer shorts only! Navy, or Burgundy are fine. Shorts are NOT OPTIONAL. They may wear school colored shirts, and ofter wear just their bathing suit top at some point since it is hot, but please make sure they are FULL COVERAGE. I always tell the girls to "keep it classy.":-)
I hope to see you all soon! Take care... and stay cool!

GIRLS READ ASAP
Hello amazingly talented and beautiful Cheerleaders!
I just want EVERYONE to know what was said at practice yesterday:
If you are absent, for even 1 day, you need to make up what you missed by calling a teammate and learning the material BEFORE you get to the next practice. If you don't and we see this, the entire team will condition for the 2 hour practice. We don't want to do that, we would rather work on the dance, and I know you don't want that either so please BE PREPARED! It is too hard to reteach everyone what they missed.
NO MORE BOOITY SHORTS! Your CHEER SHORTS need to be loose and semi-baggy. If they look like spandex you will not be allowed to practice, and yoiu need bigger ones before camp. No more spankies to practice, or those Nike shorts that look like spankies. Cheer shorts only. As in the ones we wear to camp. T-shirts or full coverage tank tops only. No spaghetti straps, and please wear a sports bra. This dress code is mandatory, not optional. If you defy it, be prepared to sit out of practice. This is a part of being on the team and being professional looking at all times. Clothing is not optional on this team ;-)
Anyone who has had perfect attendance each month will be entered into a drawing to win an iTunes gift card. I think this is a way to encourage attendance and reward those who come every practice. Also all of those with perfect attendance each month will get 2 merits for the month.
I am very proud of all of the work you have done and the commitment you have shown so far. Please remember to practice your dance every day, and to jump every day as well. We need to be a dedicated team and show this in every performance and at every game and event. Laziness will not be tolerated. The only way to look as professional and talented as I know you are is to practice and dedicate yourself to the team and to bettering your skills.
I am going to meet with the camp clothing designer soon. You will be getting 3-4 shirts, depending on the deal I get. I would like you to come up with some positive words you think should be our team motto for the year. (examples- dedicated, determined...) I want to incorporate these on your clothes so you remember to stay positive all year long right from the beginning.
Remember to practice and... LOVE YA!!!

Smith's Back!
I am so pleased with our team this year. Everyone is really working hard at practice, despite it being pleasantly warm out. Our teams have their camp dances coming along nicely, thanks to Staci and Meaghan who are really re-working the choreography to make them impressive. We should be able to perform these for net year as well. I would love to have a time to showcase these to parents, provided we have time before camp. I will keep you posted!
A lot of people are absent lately, which is expected since it is Summer Vacation! Please keep me posted well before you plan on missing practice so I know. An unexcused absence is 10 demerits. That means I did not get, or do not have, and e-mail from a parent in my inbox. I write them down on my calendar as they happen.
If you miss practice it is your responsibility to get caught up on the dance and formations. We do not have time at practice to re-teach.
Thank you all for understanding my leaving last week. I learned so much at the conference and was able to meet educators from all over the country! You would be surprised to know that LQ is nationally known as a Model school. Other schools try to replicate what we do to achieve our success!
Personally, I think the cheerleaders are by far the best at LQHS- but I may be a bit biased!
Nevertheless, I am home. I seem to have brought back the humidity with me. It was over 90% humidity in Nashville! I think I will add "y'all" and "yontoo" (you want to) to my everyday language and wear my cowboy boots often. I can't wait to wear them to games just to embarrass the girls ;-)
Take care, drink lots of water, and stay cool!!

Update 6/24
Hi there!
First of all, the girls are already impressing me after just 2 practices! I know they will be the most talented team LQ has ever seen! They have been working on their dance to be performed at camp, and are all very quick learners!
I will be out of town tomorrow through the following Saturday. I was asked by our Principal Mrs. Salazar to attend the National Model Schools Conference in Nashville. This is a huge honor and I am very excited! I will be attending as a representative of our school, Mrs. Salazar will be presenting for our school and sharing our successes, and attending amazing presentations for part of the week. Then I get to have a vacation! (I know, it surprises me too!) I will have my computer, but don't intend on doing any cheer business during the day when I am in the conference. I don't think Mrs. Salazar would appreciate this... ;-) So, that being said- e-mail me and I will try and return your e-mail as I can. (I will borrow Wi Fi from the hotel on my lap top.) Practice will still be going on Tuesday and Wednesday with Meaghan and our NEW Coaches- Staci Stevens and Shantae Rangel. Please bring any athletic clearance forms to PRACTICE not to Coach Armstrong as he has requested I handle the rest. Meaghan will give them to me when I return.
Staci will be assisting the team this year when she can and it is much appreciated! She also runs the Xavier cheer program, and Action cheer, so while she may not be at every practice and game, her help is needed and appreciated! Shantae will be coaching JV and also helping with Varsity when she can and is needed. She is a member of Action's college team and just super awesome! I am so excited to have these two amazing ladies to join the coaching staff this year.
I can't wait to get back to practice and the girls, but thank you in advance for understanding how important and amazing next week's opportunity is for me as a professional educator!

Please look below for your daughters name. If there is a Y next to her name she is cleared to practice. If there is an N that means she has not turned in paperwork to Coach Armstrong yet. I know I have heard from many of you that you are struggling to get doctors appointments. I am again sorry for this. It is or District policy to not practice until cleared. I MUST follow this or my job will be in jeopardy. Please make sure to turn in any paper work you can tomorrow before practice, or unfortunately your daughter will not be doing any physically dangerous activity. Again, I will not punish anyone because it is my fault I did not know when the date for the physical on campus was. Tomorrow will be a very low key day anyway, as need to make sure the girls can get to know one another and give them a run down of the summer and year. Thank you! I look forward to starting tomorrow!
Please make sure your daughter brings a water bottle and her cheer binder to each practice.
Our Cheer blog is www.lqhscheer.blogspot.com
and you can follow cheer updates on our twitter at LQHScheer
Please make sure your daughter knows all information as she will be held responsible for it as well!

Cheer Twitter
We now also have a cheer Twitter! No excuses this year ladies. You MUST know all information that is given out and be responsible. This will help you in the long run as you gain responsibility for your own actions and activities. You can't blame things on your mom or dad anymore ;-) Please check our Twitter at http://twitter.com/LQHSCheer
The Blackhawk Brigade even has a Twitter! Please check this blog for more detailed messages and our Twitter for short reminders. Though I shouldn't have to say it, no comments of yours are necessary on the Twitter or blog. I do not want any kind of drama from this technology. It is a professional way for me to get in touch with each of you.
LOVE YOU!

Practice updates and important clothing order information
Hello all!
So I just got done typing a very detailed e-mail when it so awesomely got lost before I sent it. I am so glad I wasted those last 40 minutes... here goes try two...
Please continue to tell me when your daughter will miss practice, and thanks to those who already have!
Practice will be 1-3, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Action Cheer Gym. The address is:
31-330 Reserve Drive Suite B
Thousand Palms, Ca 92276
If you get lost, please call me. I have attached, to the e-mail a release form I must have signed on day 1 or your daughter will not practice.
Camp is August 1st-4th. There will be a 2 week break from the 5th- the 21st . Work week will be 3 days before my report date as a teacher. I hope to have the gym back by then! August 22, 23, and 24 will be longer days from 1-4 (location TBD.)
You must be athletically cleared prior to practice. All forms must be turned into Coach Armstrong in his office on campus. He will be there every week day from 8-12. If your last physical was after June 22nd and you were cleared last year you are able to practice. If it is dated past a year you are not. I will be e-mailing him and asking who has been cleared at the end of the week and again Monday. Many did not pick up a clearance packet, so please do so in the front office ASAP.
EVERY practice, the girls need to bring their cheer binder, and a water bottle. NO EXCEPTIONS!
CLOTHING-
We will be ordering less expensive camp clothing. I am getting the shirts designed locally and will let you know when I need to order those.
Please order the following items- ALL CHEER SHORTS MUST BE SOFFE Brand ONLY! I have listed a website below where they can be found cheapest. You can sometimes find them locally at Kohls or Big 5.
NAVY, MAROON, AND WHITE SOFFE SHORTS- please make sure they are big enough. I prefer baggy. Many of you need to go up a size, I am tired of seeing parts of your rear that I don't need to see :-) I will be letting your parents know who needs bigger shorts if I see they are too small.

NAVY SKORT (MUST be ordered here ONLY! )
http://www.omnicheer.com/Cheer-Skirts/Lycra-Skirts/Lycra-Cheerleading-Skirt-With-Built-In-Short.axd
EVERYONE will also need-
1. White short socks. No color socks will ever be worn with cheer clothing, unless they are our tube socks.
2. AN ALL WHITE SPORTS BRA. No colored, tagged, painted, bedazzled, bright, tacky, sports bras will be tolerated. if one is worn it can be seen through clothing and you will sit out, yes, even from camp!
TOTALLY OPTIONAL: the only shoes I allow to be worn to school with the uniform are cheer shoes. This year it will be optional to order silver glitter Toms. They can be found here:
http://www.toms.com/womens/glitters/silver-glitters-shoes
Do not let your daughter say it is mandatory. It is optional and up to you. But, these and cheer shoes are the only options to wear with the uniform to school.
Last but not least- a note about Smith's Summer. I love cheer, and I love coaching. I also love having a Summer break as all other teachers do. I get one stipend for 12 months of cheer, and it is split in half so that I get paid in the Fall and Spring. I do not get paid for any Summer practice, work, or anything like that. I don't do this for the money, but I will be trying to enjoy my break this year. My house, my family, and my dog are kind of neglected. :-) That being said I will check my e-mail a few times a week. Please do not call me late at night, I often have calls at 11 or later, and please understand that I need a break too, or I might not make it through football season! Any cheer emergency going on I will respond to as timely as possible.
Thank you for your time and I will see you all soon!

Update 6/7/11
Hello all!
Sorry for the delay in this message, I have been out of commission since Friday with some sort of ridiculous stomach virus that had me absolutely wiped out for 4 days. Yesterday I missed school because I actually had to get an IV of a liter of fluid! The Dr. told me its going around… so I pray you all aren’t subjected to it!
$ 450 is due by Friday. If I do not have the money due, your daughter will not attend camp and will be removed from the team. I will be here all day Friday. Please let me know what time you plan to drop it off if you are planning to so I can be ready. Between 8-10 AM please do not contact me as I will be in a meeting.
Coaches-
I have 2 Coaches who I hope to be able to say are officially approved very soon. In order to be cleared they must be District Board Approved and Live scanned, as well as certified in First Aid and CPR, and TB cleared… so it is quite a process. I would like to hold off on naming them until they are officially cleared. BUT I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
Practice-
We cannot use our gym all summer. This has caused problems in finding a place to practice, not only for cheer, but for every sport that uses the gym in the summer. Our location is TBD at the moment but practice will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-3 PM. Please let me know if this conflicts with anyone for Summer School, which is for remediation only again, and I don’t think it will impact much of the team. Both teams will practice both days. Practice will start on June 21st and 22nd and be every Tuesday and Wednesday until camp. Camp is August 1st-4th. There will be a 2 week break from the 5th- the 21st . Work week will be 3 days before my report date as a teacher. I hope to have the gym back by then! August 22, 23, and 24 will be longer days from 1-4 (location TBD.)
That looks nice and confusing…sorry! J I have attached a calendar to aid you (there are 3 pages you can turn the page in the bottom left corner.) PLEASE PRINT A COPY FOR YOURSELF AND FOR THE GIRLS’ CHEER BINDER. I will have extras when the girls come to get their clearance forms…
A note on practice- I know you will take vacations, and please do! I have scheduled practice Tuesday and Wednesday so we can all have Thurs-Monday to take long weekends. Please try and do this, though I realize it isn’t possible all the time, and some have arrangements with parents and family. ALWAYS tell me when you will be missing practice. A missed practice in the summer will only be 1 demerit. Any missed practice without notifying me will be 10 demerits, just like in season. Tardies will also count in the summer. If you are not early you are late! J I plan on taking my vacations on days we don’t have practice as well… Remember as long as there is practice I am here on my school vacation as well. It is a sacrifice I make for the girls and I would appreciate them being at practice. It is hard for me to conduct practice with people missing. As soon as one person is gone one entire stunt group will lose out on practice before camp and the school year. This goes for the whole year! Please have your girls read this as well!
Athletic Clearance-
Your daughter will need to obtain athletic clearance forms in my room tomorrow. I will have packets made by the end of 3rd period. Unfortunately I missed the on campus date for physicals which was at the end of May and I didn’t know it was happening. I am SO SORRY! This means you will need to schedule an appointment to see your own doctor and have them fill out the form for clearance. It should take no more than 10 minutes. Each girl will need to then turn in the ENTIRE COMPLETED PACKET OF FORMS to Coach Armstrong by June 21st or they cannot practice. Coach Armstrong will be in his office on campus (by the weight room) every week day from 8-12. All he will do is collect the forms and issue a clearance sheet, if not he will check you off and I will then know you are clear. Again I am sorry for any inconvenience I have caused you in this matter.
Cheers-
I will be making a copy of the Cheer DVD of all of our sideline cheers. It is the girls responsibility to learn these cheers throughout the summer. On day one of work week I will test them on all cheers as a team. Anyone who doesn’t know them will have until day 3 of work week to again be tested. If the cheers are still not known they will sit out the first football game. This is a non negotiable policy and applies to ALL members of cheer, returning or not, Varsity or JV. This way we can focus on our dance for camp and stunts for the year at practices in the summer.
Last words- A big thanks to Debbie McNicol, Revae Reynolds, and Tonya Carnevale for all of their help at the uniform fittings last week! I have never had a fitting run as smoothly as it did! Our uniform exchange turned out fabulously thanks to Tonya and our bill was paid in FULL at the time of order with the help of Revae and Debbie! And THANKS to all of you for being prompt in your arrival and for making this an easy fitting for the team!
Thanks so much! I will be busy winding down in my classroom the next few days and checking out of school so I may be slow in a response but I promise I will as soon as I can!
