Practice and clearance




Thank you for your patience in awaiting a time and day for summer practice. I was at the mercy of my Assistant Principal who ultimately has the final say in my practice times in the gym. I heard back today that we will be practicing on Thursdays from 1-5. This will start next Thursday June 21. I have decided to have only one day of practice in the summer so that everyone can take more breaks and vacations. Please try to keep in mind when ever someone is gone an entire stunt group suffers. 

Practices will be the following dates in the mini-gym from 1-5:

June 21
June 28
July 5 NO PRACTICE- too many people will be on vacation since the 4th of July is on a Wed.
July 12
July 19
July 26 VERY IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE IS HERE BEFORE CAMP

Please keep in mind our school is under major construction. I have been told that we may not be allowed in the gym with VERY short notice. which means, practices may be moved, or cancelled at the last minute. This is NOT IN OUR CONTROL. Please note- I will get the information of any changes to the captains as soon as I can. 

Camp is July 30- August 2- I will give the girls their permission slips on the first day of practice, they will be due the next day of practice. 

August 6-10 is a break from cheer

August 13-16th from 2:30-4:30 will be work week. THIS IS MANDATORY AND NO ONE MAY MISS IT! It was in your cheer packet that was handed out before try-outs in March- so there shouldn't be any conflicts. 

August 24th- before school starts is our first home football game. 


Please note- I too take vacations and I do so around practices. If I do not respond right away to my e-mail or texts, and phone it is because even I take breaks from cheer :-) I appreciate your understanding of this, as there is hardly a day that goes by that I don't have some cheer business going on! 

On the first day of practice we will also fill out rooming lists for camp so be ready girls! You will need to room with members of YOUR OWN TEAM. It helps with bonding. 


ATHLETIC CLEARANCE

TO THE GIRLS:

There are MANY of you NOT cleared to practice. The due date I set was Friday June 8th. It is now June 12th. DUE DATES MUST BE MET. Demerits start NOW. If you are not cleared by June 21 when we start practice I WILL SEND YOU HOME AND YOU WILL NOT PRACTICE, you will also get 2 demerits. PLEASE turn in ALL paperwork, not just emergency card, to COACH ARMSTRONG. You may do so by dropping it off in the office and they will put it in his box, or bringing it to him in his office. YOU MAY NOT interrupt football practice and hunt him down on the football field. Due dates are due dates, and THEY MUST BE MET! it is too hard for me to keep track of 43 girls if due dates aren't met. 

Please make sure you order the shorts and skort I directed you to in an earlier message. Please Email me any dates you will be absent from practice asap. If work conflicts at any time throughout the year I need a copy of your work schedule in hand to excuse you due to work. Thanks!

Silver Tom's

Silver Tom's are OPTIONAL and can be worn to school with their uniforms during the year. Here is an awesome deal! THANKS!
 
 
Sorry to bother everyone again...I forgot to mention that one of our new JV moms, Silvia Rodriguez, did some research and was able to hook up a deal with one of our local businesses to get all La Quinta Cheerleaders the optional Silver Sparkly Toms for only $37.50 plus tax. If you haven't already done your research these shoes typically run $65.00 plus tax and shipping. Glen, owner of Epidemic Skateboard Shop has offered to order the shoes at basically his cost to help support LQ Cheer. 

Here's how you get them....

At uniform fitting I will have Epidemic Skateboard Shop business cards to hand out to all cheerleaders with instructions. You can then go to Epidemic (72363 HWY 111 in Palm Desert next to Islands and I HOP) any time between May 30th and June 30th to size your cheerleader and place your order. Money will be due when you place your order. The shoe order will be placed on June 30th as a large order to get the free shipping. Please make sure to go with your cheerleader for sizing if possible as Epidemic Skateboard Shop will not be responsible for delays caused by wrong sizes being ordered or back ordered items. I will email parents once the shoe order is in so you can arrange for pick-up.

Uniform Exchange

Good afternoon cheer families,
 
I hope you are all enjoying the long holiday weekend. I just wanted to send out a reminder that this Wednesday, May 30th is uniform fittings. We will be doing the uniform exchange at 5:00PM at uniform fitting. If you plan on purchasing or selling a used uniform you need to be at the fittings at 5:00pm to have the best chances of selling or purchasing a used uniform. See pricing below...no haggling allowed:

If you have already found a cheerleader uniform to purchase please note that you still need to come to uniform fittings at your scheduled time (previously sent by Coach Smith, also available on the cheer blog) with the uniform you plan to purchase and have Coach Smith okay the fit....not booty's can be hanging out. You will also need to leave your cheer shirt along with $20.00 cash with me to have the embroidery done

Varsity Cheer Boxes

Hello Varsity Cheerleaders and Parents,
 
This is a reminder that we will be painting and repairing varsity cheer boxes this Wednesday after school. We will meet at the cheer bin at 3:00pm. It is mandatory for all Varsity cheerleaders (unless cleared by Coach Smith) to attend to repair and touch up her box. We are still looking for parent volunteers to help supervise and repair. We need at least two parents to bring hand held drills for wheel replacement. The Booster will provide waters and sandwiches for all volunteers.

Update from Team Moms

CHEERLEADERS AND PARENTS – Please review the items below and calendar each so you don’t forget what is coming up.  Coach Smith, our Booster Board and our Team Moms are here to make your Cheerleaders’ experience wonderful, but we expect our Cheerleaders and parents to be responsible for also following up with their activities. 

Golf Tournament May 20, 2012:
·       We need to have golf tournament golfers/tee sponsorship forms and money no later than this Friday May 11th at 4:00 p.m.
·       If you do not have golfers that will be participating, please provide a check in the amount of $190.00 payable to La Quinta Cheer Booster Club
·       In addition you must to have your 2 (two) raffle items also no later than this Friday, May 11th at 4:00 p.m.
·       All the above items can be turn into your Team Mom, left at the front office of La Quinta high addressed to Coach Smith (make sure your cheerleader’s name is on all items), President Tonya Carnevale, Treasurers Tatiana Hinkle or Debbie McNicol
·       All girls are required to attend the entire golf tournament on May 20th in the afternoon. Time will be provided in the near future
·       The Booster Board will need parent help at the golf tournament, please let your Team Mom know if you can help out.
·       CHEERLEADERS – Returners wear complete uniform w/ shoes (no Toms); JV returners please put your name in your jerseys and take to Coach Smith. We would like for the new girls to wear navy shorts/skort and the jerseys with white tennis shoes. New cheerleaders, make sure to wash and return the jerseys to Coach Smith after tournament
Physicals:
·       LQ will hold physicals on May 16 and May 23, or you may take your Cheerleader to your personal physician
·       There are many Cheerleaders who have not picked up the physical forms from Coach Smith, please do so ASAP
·       The cost for the LQ physicals is $25 at time of physical
·       If you attend the LQ physical, you can turn in there. If going to personal physician, give to Coach Armstrong
·       Your Cheerleader will not be able to practice without the physical and should be complete
·       The absolute last day to turn in the physical forms is the last day of school, June 7th
Varsity Boxes:
·       Varsity Cheerleader – On Wednesday, May 30th at 3:00 p.m. we will be repairing and touching up your Varsity Boxes
·       This is mandatory for Varsity Cheerleaders
·       The paint and wheels will be provided but we need some parents to help. Parents let us know if you can volunteer to help your Cheerleaders, especially Dad’s that can change out wheels and lift them into trucks
·       The Booster Board will be providing pizza and drinks for all and Cheerleaders will earn merits if your parents help out
·       We also need Parents to deliver the boxes to Hawks Design in Indio, please let us know if you can help out
Uniforms:
·       Uniforms fittings/orders will be May 30, 2012, you should have received your schedule time
·       Remember if you would like to exchange or purchase a used uniform, please contact Tonya
·       We will also have information where you can purchase Toms at a discount
·       Varsity Lettered Cheerleaders – we are hoping to have the Varsity Sweater/Cardigan to view and order
·       The Booster Treasurer will be at fitting to transfer funds in accounts to purchase uniforms
·       Don’t forget you need to purchase separately the shorts and skort requested by Coach Smith.
Camp:
·       Camp is July 30th to August 2nd.  Please calendar
·       Balances for camp are due the first week of June

SPRING RALLY

Sorry I could not give you a last Smithizzle Note. I have not had time to type one and get it out to your class! SORRY!

You are excused from 3rd and 4th period.

Meet in the gym at 9:31 the beginning of 3rd period. I will meet you in the mini gym where you WILL be stretching already. I will need to get my class situated in the gym and then be right with you.

Wear to school-
Uniform, cheer shoes, hair in HIGH pony with bow, bangs back any way you like as long as they are ALL OFF YOUR FACE!

Be ready to perform. Meanin- tonight I need you to review your counts, and your motions, and your dance... ALL OF IT! Tomorrow we will have time for stretching and warming up stunts, and that is all. There will not be time for goofing around. Get yourself motivated to make this performance your best!

Athletic Clearance, Camp clothes, and Summer Practice



As I begin to plan for Summer, I need to know of anyone who will be in Summer School or an academic class. Last year no one was so I could have practice in the early afternoon. I would prefer this since it is often very hot in the summer. I need to know now so I can reserve the gym ahead of time. Please let me know today if your daughter plans on attending summer school or a class so I can attempt to schedule practices.

Also the girls will need to pick up an athletic clearance packet in my room next week. In that packet there is a physical form. Clearance is needed before your daughter can practice. YOU WILL NOT PRACTICE WITHOUT CLEARANCE. The school holds physicals for 425 cash only on May 16th and 23rd. You are also welcome to see your own doctor and have them fill out the form if you choose. Again, they can pick these up in my room NEXT WEEK. If you go to the school physical clearance will be issued there, and Coach Armstrong will have your name on file. If you go to another Dr. you will need to turn all forms in to Coach Armstrong yourself. PLEASE do not interrupt his football practice in the summer to do so. His office is next to the gym across from the pool, or you can put it in his box in the office.

NO ONE SHOULD BE WEARING A CHILD SIZE SHORT. I have had many issues with girls wearing shorts WAY too small and I will not tolerate it. Cheer shorts are the only acceptable shorts for practice. Some of the girls need to be wearing a larger short, please use your best judgment with this. Soffe shorts are NOT meant to be tight like bike shorts!!!

You will also need a skort and it MUST BE THIS ONE FROM THIS SITE IN NAVY!
