Week 4 update- VIP!!

Hello again,

I was just told today that the frosh game that was supposed to be on Thursday has moved to Friday.

JV PARENTS AND CHEERLEADERS-

Please note the new report time is 3:30 FRIDAY. The game starts at 4. Please understand this was out of my control and I apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. I know Haley, Bailey, and Justine have conflicts and will not be punished for not being at the game. All of the other girls did not cite a conflict and should be there on time.

VARSITY PARENTS AND CHEERLEADERS-

We are in need of someone who can pick up 5cheer boxes and deliver them to the bin around 5:30 on Friday. They will need to be picked up before Hawks closes, I believe at 5, and brought to school Friday when the girls are all getting their boxes out of the bin. All of the parents who have been helping to transport are unavailable. WE NEED another volunteer to help. If you can please let me know ASAP! Te boxes needing pick up are those belonging to Marquee, Mackenzie, Kyrie, Jessica Smith or Brandy. It would be really awesome if one of those parents can pick up the boxes. We have done so much work thus far to get them all ready and are in need of help. Thank you in advance for volunteering for this task.

See you all soon!

Football week 4

Hello Cheer Parents!

I would like to say that I honestly cannot believe we are already in week 4 of the 2011-2012 football season!

Once again week three was a complete success!

The JV Cheerleader of the game was Maryfer for her dedication to being the best she can be on the sideline.

The Varsity Cheerleader of the game was Maria for her continued confidence and willingness to be a great leader for her team.

This week’s events-

THANK GOODNESS WE ARE HOME AND ON OUR OWN FIELD!
(If I ever see another yellow bus it will be too soon!)

Thursday Frosh cheered by JV Cheer- Home Vs. Arlington at LQHS.
Game starts at 5
Girls report to the field at 4 in uniform, cheer shoes, white socks, hair braided with bow in a high pony.
Wear to school- Uniform, cheer shoes or Toms, hair as you like.

Friday Varsity Home vs. Arlington
Game starts at 7
Girls report to bin at 5:50 to get box then on the field with box at 6:00
Wear to school- Cheer shoes, or Toms, uniform, hair as you like.
Wear to Game- cheer shoes, all white socks, uniform, hair braided with high pony and bow.  HAVE IT ALL DONE WHEN YOU GET THERE! No make-up or glitter on the sidelines. EVER!

We will be selling seat cushions at both games, Thursday at 5 and Friday at 7. The Booster Board is requesting that some JV parents help sell at the Frosh game on Thursday, and Varsity moms selling at the Varsity game Friday. I also need some girls to sell at the other teams game. If a parent or cheerleader helps the cheerleader will get 3 merits. Please confirm with me if you or your daughter plan to help sell so I can make a master list and let the Booster know. Thanks for your support and help!

I would like to send a big thank you out to Art Lambrose for helping with box repairs, a REALLY big thank you to the Van Winkle Family, and McNicol Family for helping to build 4 new boxes, and Lupe Leonesio, and Julie Kalman for their help in facilitating box repair. Without these parents, and the entire Board, we would not have cheer boxes this week! They really made it happen! A big thanks to the Board for facilitating fundraisers to pay for these expenses as well! THANK YOU ALL!!!

Please remind your daughters that I will be checking grades and attendance at each quarter. Progress reports are coming up already! If anyone falls below a 2.0 GPA they will be on Academic Probation from cheer. If anyone has an attendance issue I will speak with them individually as attending class should be their first priority. Also, many of the girls are wearing very short shorts. Can you, as parents, help me make sure they are following the dress code? Tube tops are not allowed either. Any infraction of the dress code will result in demerits.

Thank you for all you do, and I can’t wait to see all of you on OUR field this week!

GO HAWKS!

Hello there!

We have been working to get the Varsity cheer boxes ready for the first TRUE home game 9/23.

First I would like to send out a BIG thanks to the Booster Board for helping to expidite this process. Also, to Art Lambrose who is meeting me today and tomorrow to make repaires to the boxes, and to Val and Tony Van Winkle who volunteered to make 4 new boxes from scratch! THANK YOU ALL!!! I know it means the world to the girls to have their boxes ready for this game. We were anticipating the first home game being 10/21 and this is almost a month early!

We really need some parents to volunteer to come to the cheer bin, behind school on the basketball courts by the field closest to the field, after school on Thursday. We need parents to help facilitate the paint touch up, assessment of boxes, and to help Art Lambrose in any way we can to get the boxes done that day and ready to go to Hawks to have stickers replaced and such.

We REALLY need parents with a truck or trailer to help take boxes to HAWKS on Thursday 9/8. We should be done touching up by 4-4:30. If you have a truck or trailer and can transport please let me know ASAP how many boxes you can take and if you can help. If we can't get all the boxes that need to be fixed therei in this way then each girl/parent will be responsible for their own box.

The girls will get merits if you can come help. Thank you for your consideration in helping in this undertaking! Please get back to me ASAP!

Football Week 1

Hello there!

This is the first e-mail of the Football Season! I am so pumped for a great year! We had an awesome work week. I just cannot get over the talent, respect, and kindness this team has shown me these past few months! I am ready to showcase them to the rest of the community!

Each week I will e-mail information to all of you so you are fully aware of what is going on. Each team will be addressed, and I will put the information on the cheer blog as well. It is not only the parents responsibility to know the information but the girls must also be attentive to the information for the week. I will not entertain the excuse of "I didn't know."

Monday- the girls are to wear their uniform, cheer shoes, or sparkly Toms, hair as they like to school

Monday and Tuesday from 3-5 will be Varsity practices until further notice.
Monday and Wednesday will be JV practices from 3-5.
All practices in the mini-gym.

Thursday will be a JV game.
Wear to school- Uniform, cheer shoes, or sparkly Toms, hair as you like
Game is a home game but at Indio. It starts at 6. Please report to the bus in front of the gym at 4:30. If you are not early you are late. You will be left!
Wear to the bus, hair in HIGH pony with bow, cheer shoes, all white socks, no bra straps showing, bring poms!

Friday is a Varsity game.
Wear to school- Uniform, cheer shoes, or Toms, hair as you like.
The game is at Los Osos High at 7:00
Report to the bus at 3:30. If you are not early you are late! You will be left!
Wear to bus- uniform, hair in high pony braided to the right with bow, cheer shoes, white socks. Bring Poms, liner, and warm ups. Varsity- just leave these items in your bag. If one person forgets and it is cold the whole team suffers.
We should be back around midnight. Please be ready to pick your daughter up because I cannot leave campus until I know each of them is safe.

Our football schedule is changing soon. It looks like we will have our field back much earlier than expected. We are getting organized to try and have the Varsity boxes ready for this. This is great news, but I apologize in advance as the change as out of my control. I don't like last minute changes when I try to be organized with schedules and buses ordered... but I just found out today at our coaches meeting.

I usually send out a master list of who is ringing water and snack for the season to the games. For now I will pick 2 girls to bring water 24 bottles in an ice chest please) and 1 person on JV and 2 on Varsity to bring snack. An appropriate snack would be granola bars, chips, fruit, fruit snacks... in other words it does not need to be a buffet of expensive items.

Thursday JV game-
Justine and Jamie bring Water
Natalie Bergh bring snack

Friday Varsity game-
Solveig and Brandy bring Snack (14 of an item each since there are 28 of you)
Nikki and Lily bring water

It technically is a home game on Friday, so I will be discussing with the girls appropriate goody bag creation on Tuesday. When I type those notes I will send them to you and post them on the blog as well so you know.

Just a heads up- goody bags should not cost hundreds of dollars. Do not spend so much on these bags!

I was not anticipating sending this until Monday, but with the changes coming I wanted to give you ample time to know the information. I am getting ready for my year as a teacher tomorrow, and will be VERY busy next week. Please note any message received will be responded to as soon as I can. thus starts the juggle of being the teacher of an academic subject and a cheer coach!

Thank you for your attention to this information and I look forward to seeing all of you at the games!

GO HAWKS!!

Cheer Camp Bragging from Smithizzle!

Hello all!

I hope everyone is doing well and all of the girls have now had a chance to get some rest! I slept for over 15 hours, so I know many of them will still be recovering for a few days. Please let them know that rest is the first step to recovering their sore muscles. They did a lot of work the last few days!

I could not be more proud of the girls than I am right now. I can not stop thinking about what a great job they did at camp. I want to take a few minutes to let you all know of their accomplishments.

TSC was the best camp I have ever attended. The girls had FUN which I was very pleased with. Many camps don't emphasize the fun aspect of camp. TSC does. The girls had breaks throughout the day to bond, even with other teams, and to just dance and go crazy! With as much work as they were doing these activities kept them going! We performed our home routine on day 1 and both teams ROCKED! We knew we were not going to get our evaluation until the last day, I think I was more impatient than them, but I was confident they did well. JV placed FIRST and Varsity placed SECOND out of about 10-15 teams in each category! (Don't worry we have video of almost everything- Thanks to Staci!) We even had Meaghan on Skype for the performances, which was way cool!

They started learning a camp dance and a performance cheer which they would be evaluated on the next two days. The girls were assigned a private coach from TSC staff to help make changes to the routines and to add stunts to the cheer. Their evaluations went very well! I have to tell you about the dance evaluation. Both LQ Teams performed almost perfectly and received Game Ready blue ribbons. They were in a group with a JV team from another school. This team was very timid and nervous, and our girls cheered them on. After the first performance the other squad was very upset. Our girls went out of their way to cheer them on to try again, and cheered throughout the performance. They did perform and after LQ and this team played a cheer game together. LQ went out of their way to put a smile on the face of each of the other teams' girls. WITHOUT a prompting from any of our coaches. I have NEVER seen such kindness from any cheer team. I was so proud I almost cried. The group we have this year is truly the sweetest most caring group I could have ever hoped for. You should all be very proud of your daughter and the wonderful young lady she is! This was a wonderful life lesson for these girls, and I hope they can bring that experience back to LQHS and spread the kindness there!

Day 2 was very hard on the girls. There was A LOT of stunting. Our girls took it like champs and fought through to learn each skill. They were open to new techniques and skills. The stunting classes were superb. They really took the time to teach safe technique and the basics so that each stunt would progress from there. Our girls hit each stunt with ease and if they didn't they tried until they got it. They cheered each other on to success, and even cheered on other teams when they struggled. By the end of the day they were sore, and tired, but never gave up. I am so looking forward to getting back into practice with these new skills and really wowing our crowd next year! This team is one talented group of young ladies!

Day 3 is always the hardest. Everyone is tired, and cranky. No one gave up. Everyone stayed positive and encouraged others to keep their spirits high to accomplish their goals. I could see the energy fading, I know they stay up late after I tape them in at night, and they still fought through to continue to learn and progress. We had a Superhero dance party that night where we wore all pink. The girls had a blast dancing with other teams, and our Blackhawk even went to the party in costume! I could not help but laugh as I saw him being chased around the room by girls from all teams. I think he may have been the only mascot there!

The final day of camp was like none other I have ever experienced. By now I am sure you have heard, Bruce and Kris Jenner's daughters were at camp with us. As well as Jamie Foxx's daughter. I had never experienced this. Our girls really understood to let them have a normal camp experience and not harass them with requests for pictures and such. On the final day the Kardashian clan was present to watch the performances. I hate to brag but, Kourtney Kardashian's baby was quite taken by our Blackhawk. Maybe he will end up on the reality show. That is pretty cool I must admit!

Varsity performed both the cheer and the dance, and JV performed the dance. Both teams placed in each category bringing home a trophy! JV also was awarded Most Improved Team, and Varsity was awarded an Outstanding Team award! There are a few individulas I must recognize for their stellar performance at camp as well-

(these were preformed in front of the WHOLE Camp)

There was a jump-off- we had Courtney Carnavale, Ally Jenkins, Lindsey Klein, and Jessica Smith participate. All did AMAZING! Courtney won for all of the JV camp, and Jessica made it to the finals for Varsity.

For All- Stars-
Varsity- Whitney, Kayla, Solveig, Alex, Brooke, Lindsey, Jessica Smith, and Desirae performed a jump, the dance, and the cheer.
Brooke, and Jessica were named over all All Stars winning $ Scholarships. Alex was deemed OVER ALL All Star for 11-12 graders winning the ultimate title in her category! GREAT JOB to ALL these ladies! Way to reresent LQ!

JV- Savannah, Courtney, Ally, Melanie, and Maryfer performed a jump, the dance and the cheer.
Savannah and Courtney won $ Scholarships and were named over all All Stars! Wonderful job TO ALL these ladies! It took a lot of courage to perform in front of such a crowd and to do as well as they did!

I am so proud of the girls for all of their accomplishments, both team and personal. Camp is a lot of hard work and they rose to the challenge and represented LQ in the BEST way possible! I have to recognize the Varsity Captains, Alex, Brooke, and Solveig as well- They encouraged the WHOLE team to bond, through activities each night, and in preparations for camp. Each girl was made to feel a part of the team and I believe much of this was from their planned activities, and gifts. Their experience has given them the know how to be able to make this camp the best it could have been. I am SO PROUD of them. GREAT WORK GIRLS!

A BIG Thanks to Coach Staci, Coach Shantae, Coach O'Grady, and Mrs. Crystal Gentry for helping me all week. I am so blessed to have the expertise I have this year assisting me with the program. Coach Shantae is an amazing addition to the program. The girls really bonded with her this week and I am so lucky to have someone assisting me who truly cares for the girls and the betterment of the program. The work she has done with both teams is AMAZING! Coach Staci is truly respected by the girls and her expertise has allowed the girls to be aspire to the greatness they have already achieved. I could not have survived camp without her! Coach O'Grady was instrumental in helping with each performance and stunt. I am lucky to have her help as she has much more experience in coaching than I. Mrs. Gentry is one of my best friends, and willingly went to camp to help out in being a chaperone. She took it like  a champ! I could not have made it through the week without the encouragement and help from these wonderful women!

Thanks to all the parents who came to watch the performances yesterday and also to Debbie McNicol and Tonya Carnavale for getting my messages out while I was at camp! All of YOU are the backbone to this program. Thank you for your continued support and willingness to encourage your girls to become such wonderful young ladies!

I am glad I can type these words, because I certainly can't speak! I sound like a hoarse Demi More! Please be patient if you need to call me, I fear you may not hear me over the phone! I couldn't help but scream encouragements for each performance and during awards. I am the team's biggest fan, after all!

Thank you for allowing me to care for your girls this last week. I really do feel like they are my daughters as well, and care for them as such. Take care, and I hope everyone has a great 2 week break! I will be working on getting out the football schedule, organizing buses for those games, work week plans, practice schedules for next year, and more ideas to make this team even better!

To The Girls, I have to end with a- LOVE YA!

TAKE CARE!
