Uniform Fittings
Team Moms and Uniform Fittings
Hi there!
I have attached the Team Mom list, uniform fitting times, the credit card form for uniforms, and the Parent Packet from the parent meeting.
Please note, the girls in yellow will be needing a new uniform and will take longer. Those in white are returning and will not need to spend much time at the fitting. Please only order what is needed for replacement items. The bows, socks, and jersey are all the same. The back of the Jersey does say the team name. All other uniform items are the same as well. I have not made any adjustments to the uniforms. In the parent packet you will find the JV and Varsity order forms.
Tonya Carnavale is organizing a uniform exchange that will be done at the fitting. There will be more information to follow from her.
Please take another look at the parent packet for important upcoming dates and add them to your calendar.

LQHS Cheer FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
LQHS Cheer 2012-2013
Q: How do you decide team placement?
A: First by total score, then score without tumbling, then taking both things into consideration and seeing where the natural break falls I choose the two teams.
Q: Why do you look at the score without tumbling?
A: I would love to have a complete tumbling program, but I know this is unrealistic of all cheerleaders. I want the cheerleaders to continue to better their skills and tumbling is one way of doing that. I look at the score without tumbling because their cheering and dancing ability and jumps are much more important on the sideline and in performances.
Q: Can I make Varsity without a back handspring/tumbling?
A: Yes. You must show an attempt of one with a light spot, proving potential to have it by season, or prove you are in tumbling classes to gain tumbling skills.
Q: How does the interview help/hurt the chances of making the desired team?
A: It is a way for us to be able to ask questions to returning cheerleaders about the previous year, and a way for us to get to know the new cheerleaders’ personality. Cheering requires an outgoing attitude and a lot of spirit!
Q: How many cheerleaders will be on Varsity?
A: I always look for the natural break in scores. I am looking to have a smaller Varsity team this year. I started with 28 cheerleaders. I would like 5 stunt groups of 4 with a few front spots. I will consider these stunt positions when choosing the team as well. Looking at the natural break in scores and knowing how many I need for stunt groups, I am looking at 20-24.
Q: How many cheerleaders will be on JV?
A: Around 16. I like 3 stunt groups of 5 with a few extra. Maybe as big as 20 with 4 stunt groups of 5.
Q: Can incoming freshmen make the team? What if I am waiting on a transfer?
A: Of course they can! J You must be approved for transfer before trying out. Upon receiving the try-out packets I will be submitting the names of all incoming freshmen to the counseling office to make sure the student is going to be attending LQHS in the Fall. I realize we try-out this year for next school year, but I cannot give a spot on the team to a child who may not attend this school.
Q: Why is it so expensive? How can I pay for camp and the uniform?
A: We have a golf tournament in May. Many girls have paid for much of these fees obtaining tee sponsors and golfers for the tournament. We also fundraise for many other costs throughout the year. I try to limit cost by ordering camp clothes locally and ordering only the items needed for each team. Camp is pricey, but includes choreography, a hotel for 3 nights, and all meals. Please feel free to look into the camp at http://www.thespiritconsultants.com/ .
Q: We take Summer vacations, can I still try out and miss some practices in Summer?
A: Yes! I understand vacations will be taken. Make sure to schedule them so they don’t conflict with Work Week and Camp. I try to practice Tuesday and Wednesday so Thursday- Monday long weekends can be taken. If you have a family specific concern please feel free to contact me in private.
Q: If I don’t make the team this year, can I try out again next year?
A: Yes! Please do! You may not make the team this year, but you may if you try again! I encourage you to try again!

CHEER TRYOUTS 2012-2013
February 24, 2012
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Thank you for your interest in cheerleading at La Quinta High School. Tryouts for the 2012-2013 school year are quickly approaching. Students who are selected for the cheerleading squad must be prepared to be leaders of their school and community, and to assume certain personal and financial responsibilities, as well as a time commitment.
The cheerleaders of La Quinta High School will receive many valuable and rewarding experiences that they will remember long after they graduate from high school. These activities will not only channel their enthusiasm and spirit in a constructive and beneficial manner, but will give them a sense of pride and accomplishment in being part of a team.
To better explain the commitments of the La Quinta High School cheerleading program and all it entails, we will be having a parent meeting on Friday March 23rd in the Staff Lounge in the Main Office at 6:00 pm. We will be covering vital information regarding tryout procedures, the 2012-2013 season, and financial requirements. THIS IS A MANDATORY MEETING, students will not be allowed to tryout if a parent or guardian does not attend.

These forms must be completed and returned on or before the parent meeting on Friday March 23rd. Students will not be allowed to participate in tryouts without these documents completed.

Happy New Year!
Hello all!
Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and are enjoying the beginning of 2012! I am struggling with the idea of waking up before 9, and returning to the real world, but am excited for the new year!
I wanted to let you know what is coming up for the girls this next season. I know basketball season can be very demanding and time consuming, so please know it is VERY IMPORTANT to communicate with me when there is a conflict with a game. I know the first few weeks in January are those which we will have the most conflicts since finals are quickly approaching. Please have your daughter plan accordingly with her school work to limit the conflicts with games. Games are only about 2 hours, and I expect the girls to attend all games they are supposed to cheer. I understand that many of the girls have academically challenging schedules, however; I also know most teachers do not assign large assignments the night before they are do. That means the girls must plan to work on assignments well before they are do, and not procrastinate in hopes they will be excused from a game. Please understand I KNOW academics come first, but the girls need to learn to balance their commitments accordingly now so that they may be successful in college and in their careers later in life. Please know I am here to help. If anyone needs help with an assignment, or more specifically an essay, I can help, and am more than willing to do so! Let me know!
I have attached many schedules, and each is labeled. Both JV and Varsity A and B Team. They will cheer only one Basketball game a week, as reflected on the schedule. They are also responsible for cheering one home Wrestling match, one home boys soccer, and girls water polo- which they have either signed up for or I have assigned. When I have these finalized I will send them to you so you know where your daughter should be when. This is a GREAT thing for the girls and the other sports on campus that have not been given as much attention as our basketball and football teams. Many of the athletes of these other sports have already told me how thrilled they are to be recognized by the girls.
Also coming up are some community service projects we are involved in. I do not have the final date for the Special Olympics, but know it is in March. The girls cheer for each event for the athletes, and last year raised money for each athlete to have a shirt and pom pom. It was one of the MOST amazing days for the girls. They really enjoy the event and it is SO important to give back. Also our whole school participates in The Relay For Life. Though not required by the girls, I will be chaperoning the event again, and Cheer will have a team. The event will also be in March and on a weekend where we hold a BBQ and Sadie Hawkins Dance in memorial for Mike Gates. Any cheerleader and cheer parent is welcome to sign up to walk. I can chaperone 10 girls to spend the night. If more than that want to stay over I will need another chaperone to help out, but I won't say no to those who want to give back! Start thinking about it! It truly is a moving experience! Also March 3rd is the Memory Walk to End Alzheimer's. I have had a few girls ask if they can participate in this walk which I do every year in memory of both of my grandmothers who passed because of this disease. I have been in contact with the organizer and I hope the team can come and support this worthy cause as well. Please put it on the calendar now.
Also you will see we also have the kids camp coming up at the end of January. We have the girls host a camp where they teach a routine to youth in the community. It is a great program and fundraiser. Look for more information and the flyer to hand out soon! The girls will be responsible for signing up for a day to teach the routine and also for being at the Varsity game on the day of performance.
I am looking forward to these many events and hope to see all of you soon in the new year!
Wishing you the BEST New Year!
