Booster Meeting


Good Morning Parents,

We will be having our next General Booster Club meeting next Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 in Coach Smith's room. I would like to apologize for not having this meeting sooner...we have struggled this year between school events, Coach Smith and Booster member's schedules, Action practices and football games to set dates that work for everyone. Our goal is always to have as many of you attend as possible. I have attached our last booster club meeting minutes that will be up for approval at our meeting for your review. I have also attached an agenda for the meeting. If you feel there are any other items you wish to discuss at the meeting please send me an email and I will be happy to add your item to the agenda for discussion. We ask that everyone come on time so we can keep the meeting to 1 hour and to remind you that this is a parent meeting and no cheerleaders should be brought to the meeting. 
If your cheerleader has items they want discussed you can represent them or they can discuss with their Captains/Coach Smith.

Palm Desert Game Varsity

Palm Desert Week!

Friday to school- Wear Uniforms, toms or cheer shoes- feel free to add some red, like bows or socks.  Cheer jacket, or Letterman sweater or jackets ONLY with the uniform. If you wear the wrong thing you will be benched!
Goody bags delivered to first period.

Friday Night- Hair down, braided in the front to the right. MUST HAVE HAIR TIE ON WRIST. Either nicely straightened or curled. MUST LOOK DONE AND NICE. You WILL Not fiddle with it during the game. Use regular poms. Wear uniform, liner, and cheer shoes.
Report to the cheer bin at 5:15- boxes loaded to trailer.
Bus leaves after that.
Unload boxes at PD quickly, and nicely take boxes to field and set them up QUICKLY!
Warm-up stunts. (Remember what number they are and which side they are performed on)
Bring signs to hang up on the fence there too!


REMINDERS- Group A and B know what stunt you will do next on the sideline. Captains always have another cheer ready to go, and know what you will do for a time out. LOTS OF CROWD ENCOURAGEMENTS. LOTS of tumbling!

We have poms and stuff for you to give out after warm-ups too. Encourage people to come and help us cheer on our team!

I want the BEST performance yet!

Back to School Night and this week's update

Hi Cheerios!

Varsity- we won't be having practice tomorrow. I need to get ready for back to school night, and it is too hard to not have a prep period on a Wednesday, then two hours of cheer, and rush right into greeting parents and being a teacher! We will practice super hard Monday and Wednesday of next week. Thanks for understanding!

BOTH TEAMS-
For back to school night

Report to the mini-gym at 5:30 and not a minute late!
Wear uniform, cheer shoes, white socks, regular spanks, PINK BOW with hair half up half down.

You will perform and then you will also do the fight song with band when they play it. Make sure you review that dance.

I will need some girls to help the parents with the booth by the clock tower that will be selling sweatshirts and t-shirts. If you help, they can take down your names and you will get merits. You guys are so cute I know yo can help them sell things!!

VARSITY-

Practice your dance for homecoming on your own before Monday. NO ONE is allowed to miss practice next week. FOR ANY REASON. We cannot practice with people missing.

Starting Thursday of THIS WEEK we will be painting the homecoming run-through. This is a massive undertaking! YOU MUST come at lunch to help with this. I need people with 6th period unscheduled only to help with balloons next friday when we fill it.

We are playing INDIO away. Report to the bus at 5:30, hair half up half down with pink bow and uniform. Please wear the correct thing! Your hair MUST HAVE a rubber band hair tie and then the bow. No loose hair hanging over ears. It must be all off your face. Also no bangs out. I will ask you to re-do it if it is wrong.

Wear to school- uniform, cheer shoes, or Toms, hair as you like. It may be nice to wear your pink bow to school.

If you haven't gotten a pink bow because you missed practice let me know.

BOTH TEAMS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN SPIRIT DAYS NEXT WEEK. Plan ahead. You are the SPIRIT of the school, so in order to increase school spirit I expect you to participate.

October 3 Back to School Night

Wednesday October 3rd is Back to School Night

Both teams will need to be in the mini-gym at 5. Dressed in uniform, and hair as you usually wear it to games.

Varsity knows what they are doing. JV- Coach Ciotta and I will discuss and get back to you.

Make arrangements now as your work schedule or other activities will need to be changed. No excuse will be accepted as this is a month in advance.

NOTE TO ALL CHEERLEADERS

Read the post about the kids camp I just posted.

I will need about 10-15 of you per day to help with the kids. We usually have 45-50 of them so this is very important! This is a great event for us and it really depends on YOU to be there.

Both JV and Varsity should plan on being there AS MANY DAYS AS YOU CAN. In other words- from 3-5:30 Mon- Thursday 9/17- 9/20. We will not have practice that week. So Mon, Tues, Wed when you would be practicing you will be at kids camp. Both teams Monday, ALL of JV Tues, and All of Varsity Wed. (Tuesday and Wednesday anyone who can be there- meanign you don't work or have another commitment you will be there if your team isn't scheduled to be.)

Varsity Captains will teach the dance and make a clothing schedule for both teams for the week. It is important you look professional as you are the coaches for the camp!

VARSITY- before next Friday, our next home game, you need to make at least two sings. One for your goody bag players, and one general. These will be re-used throughout the season so make them durable. Goody bags will resume next Friday as well!

JV- Keep being awesome! I am so proud of all of you! I'll see you at the game tonight!

LQHS Cheer Kids Camp

Hello Families,

It's almost here, our 2012 Cheer Camp begins Monday, September 17th and runs thru Friday, September 21, with our future cheerleaders performing at the LQHS Football game halftime show Saturday, September 22nd. Please don't delay, our camp typically fills up fast. Spread the word and tell all your friends and family that might be interested. Pre-registration begins now, register by September 12th to receive a $5.00 discount on your registration fee. In order to qualify for the pre-registration discount we must have your registration form (attached) along with your registration fee by the 12th. You can drop your  form and fee off in the LQHS office in a sealed envelope with your childs name on it, attention Coach Smith or you can email me to arrange drop off at my house.

Cheer Camp Update

Hi all,

I am unfortunately going to miss this weeks last practice before camp. My dad got into a very bad crash today and I will be driving to Fresno to be with my stepmom who is up there by herself right now. This is a very difficult time for me as I don't know exactly the extent of his injuries all I know he's pretty badly injured- and I do need to be with him at this time. I thank you for understanding that any cheer crisis should be dealt with by your captain who will then talk with me. I will not be answering cheer texts unless it is an absolute emergency.  Should I forget something in this post please alert your captain and they will talk to me.

Camp clothes- will be handed out at practice as I said.
All forms are being looked at and anyone who missed anything on them will be told to fix them or they will not attend.
Please remember- dress up day is WESTERN. NO Hoochie outfits please. Keep it classy! Also there is a chance to wear a college shirt. If you have one, or have a college you like or plan on attending you will be able to wear that on the third day.

Parents can come to camp on the last day, Thursday at __________ to watch the final performances and awards. We are int he ontario convention center. PLEASE NOTE you will not be able to sit with, hang out with, attack, or take your daughter away from the team until right after awards. NO ONE should leave with their parents everyone should take the bus to and from camp. This year should be less of a zoo because the Kardashians won't be there. :-)

BUS- Be at the bus at 7:00 am on Monday in your jersey and navy skort cheer shoes only with all white short socks, hair braided to the right with a high pony and bow! (Many of us can braid and I can do it on the bus if needed.) REMEMBER only all white short socks and ALL WHITE SPORTS BRAS!!!! Please follow directions and don't stress me out.

Remember to pack all of your necessary items and if you have meds I need to know about them! I will be checking bags.

As a last minute warning- I will not tolerate any infraction of the rules of camp or any bad behavior. I will call home and the cheerleader will need to be picked up by a parent immediately. THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER WARNING.

Practice and clearance




Thank you for your patience in awaiting a time and day for summer practice. I was at the mercy of my Assistant Principal who ultimately has the final say in my practice times in the gym. I heard back today that we will be practicing on Thursdays from 1-5. This will start next Thursday June 21. I have decided to have only one day of practice in the summer so that everyone can take more breaks and vacations. Please try to keep in mind when ever someone is gone an entire stunt group suffers. 

Practices will be the following dates in the mini-gym from 1-5:

June 21
June 28
July 5 NO PRACTICE- too many people will be on vacation since the 4th of July is on a Wed.
July 12
July 19
July 26 VERY IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE IS HERE BEFORE CAMP

Please keep in mind our school is under major construction. I have been told that we may not be allowed in the gym with VERY short notice. which means, practices may be moved, or cancelled at the last minute. This is NOT IN OUR CONTROL. Please note- I will get the information of any changes to the captains as soon as I can. 

Camp is July 30- August 2- I will give the girls their permission slips on the first day of practice, they will be due the next day of practice. 

August 6-10 is a break from cheer

August 13-16th from 2:30-4:30 will be work week. THIS IS MANDATORY AND NO ONE MAY MISS IT! It was in your cheer packet that was handed out before try-outs in March- so there shouldn't be any conflicts. 

August 24th- before school starts is our first home football game. 


Please note- I too take vacations and I do so around practices. If I do not respond right away to my e-mail or texts, and phone it is because even I take breaks from cheer :-) I appreciate your understanding of this, as there is hardly a day that goes by that I don't have some cheer business going on! 

On the first day of practice we will also fill out rooming lists for camp so be ready girls! You will need to room with members of YOUR OWN TEAM. It helps with bonding. 


ATHLETIC CLEARANCE

TO THE GIRLS:

There are MANY of you NOT cleared to practice. The due date I set was Friday June 8th. It is now June 12th. DUE DATES MUST BE MET. Demerits start NOW. If you are not cleared by June 21 when we start practice I WILL SEND YOU HOME AND YOU WILL NOT PRACTICE, you will also get 2 demerits. PLEASE turn in ALL paperwork, not just emergency card, to COACH ARMSTRONG. You may do so by dropping it off in the office and they will put it in his box, or bringing it to him in his office. YOU MAY NOT interrupt football practice and hunt him down on the football field. Due dates are due dates, and THEY MUST BE MET! it is too hard for me to keep track of 43 girls if due dates aren't met. 

Please make sure you order the shorts and skort I directed you to in an earlier message. Please Email me any dates you will be absent from practice asap. If work conflicts at any time throughout the year I need a copy of your work schedule in hand to excuse you due to work. Thanks!

Silver Tom's

Sorry to bother everyone again...I forgot to mention that one of our new JV moms, Silvia Rodriguez, did some research and was able to hook up a deal with one of our local businesses to get all La Quinta Cheerleaders the optional Silver Sparkly Toms for only $37.50 plus tax. If you haven't already done your research these shoes typically run $65.00 plus tax and shipping. Glen, owner of Epidemic Skateboard Shop has offered to order the shoes at basically his cost to help support LQ Cheer. 

Here's how you get them....

At uniform fitting I will have Epidemic Skateboard Shop business cards to hand out to all cheerleaders with instructions. You can then go to Epidemic (72363 HWY 111 in Palm Desert next to Islands and I HOP) any time between May 30th and June 30th to size your cheerleader and place your order. Money will be due when you place your order. The shoe order will be placed on June 30th as a large order to get the free shipping. Please make sure to go with your cheerleader for sizing if possible as Epidemic Skateboard Shop will not be responsible for delays caused by wrong sizes being ordered or back ordered items. I will email parents once the shoe order is in so you can arrange for pick-up.

Uniform Exchange

Good afternoon cheer families,
 
I hope you are all enjoying the long holiday weekend. I just wanted to send out a reminder that this Wednesday, May 30th is uniform fittings. We will be doing the uniform exchange at 5:00PM at uniform fitting. If you plan on purchasing or selling a used uniform you need to be at the fittings at 5:00pm to have the best chances of selling or purchasing a used uniform. Varsity Cheer Boxes

Hello Varsity Cheerleaders and Parents,
 
This is a reminder that we will be painting and repairing varsity cheer boxes this Wednesday after school. We will meet at the cheer bin at 3:00pm. It is mandatory for all Varsity cheerleaders (unless cleared by Coach Smith) to attend to repair and touch up her box. We are still looking for parent volunteers to help supervise and repair. We need at least two parents to bring hand held drills for wheel replacement. The Booster will provide waters and sandwiches for all volunteers.

Update from Team Moms

CHEERLEADERS AND PARENTS – Please review the items below and calendar each so you don’t forget what is coming up.  Coach Smith, our Booster Board and our Team Moms are here to make your Cheerleaders’ experience wonderful, but we expect our Cheerleaders and parents to be responsible for also following up with their activities. 

Golf Tournament May 20, 2012:
·       We need to have golf tournament golfers/tee sponsorship forms and money no later than this Friday May 11th at 4:00 p.m.
·       If you do not have golfers that will be participating, please provide a check in the amount of $190.00 payable to La Quinta Cheer Booster Club
·       In addition you must to have your 2 (two) raffle items also no later than this Friday, May 11th at 4:00 p.m.
·       All the above items can be turn into your Team Mom, left at the front office of La Quinta high addressed to Coach Smith (make sure your cheerleader’s name is on all items), President Tonya Carnevale, Treasurers Tatiana Hinkle or Debbie McNicol
·       All girls are required to attend the entire golf tournament on May 20th in the afternoon. Time will be provided in the near future
·       The Booster Board will need parent help at the golf tournament, please let your Team Mom know if you can help out.
·       CHEERLEADERS – Returners wear complete uniform w/ shoes (no Toms); JV returners please put your name in your jerseys and take to Coach Smith. We would like for the new girls to wear navy shorts/skort and the jerseys with white tennis shoes. New cheerleaders, make sure to wash and return the jerseys to Coach Smith after tournament
Physicals:
·       LQ will hold physicals on May 16 and May 23, or you may take your Cheerleader to your personal physician
·       There are many Cheerleaders who have not picked up the physical forms from Coach Smith, please do so ASAP
·       The cost for the LQ physicals is $25 at time of physical
·       If you attend the LQ physical, you can turn in there. If going to personal physician, give to Coach Armstrong
·       Your Cheerleader will not be able to practice without the physical and should be complete
·       The absolute last day to turn in the physical forms is the last day of school, June 7th
Varsity Boxes:
·       Varsity Cheerleader – On Wednesday, May 30th at 3:00 p.m. we will be repairing and touching up your Varsity Boxes
·       This is mandatory for Varsity Cheerleaders
·       The paint and wheels will be provided but we need some parents to help. Parents let us know if you can volunteer to help your Cheerleaders, especially Dad’s that can change out wheels and lift them into trucks
·       The Booster Board will be providing pizza and drinks for all and Cheerleaders will earn merits if your parents help out
·       We also need Parents to deliver the boxes to Hawks Design in Indio, please let us know if you can help out
Uniforms:
·       Uniforms fittings/orders will be May 30, 2012, you should have received your schedule time
·       Remember if you would like to exchange or purchase a used uniform, please contact Tonya
·       We will also have information where you can purchase Toms at a discount
·       Varsity Lettered Cheerleaders – we are hoping to have the Varsity Sweater/Cardigan to view and order
·       The Booster Treasurer will be at fitting to transfer funds in accounts to purchase uniforms
·       Don’t forget you need to purchase separately the shorts and skort requested by Coach Smith.
Camp:

Meet in the gym at 9:31 the beginning of 3rd period. I will meet you in the mini gym where you WILL be stretching already. I will need to get my class situated in the gym and then be right with you.

Uniform, cheer shoes, hair in HIGH pony with bow, bangs back any way you like as long as they are ALL OFF YOUR FACE!

Be ready to perform. Meanin- tonight I need you to review your counts, and your motions, and your dance... ALL OF IT! Tomorrow we will have time for stretching and warming up stunts, and that is all. There will not be time for goofing around. Get yourself motivated to make this performance your best!

Athletic Clearance, Camp clothes, and Summer Practice



As I begin to plan for Summer, I need to know of anyone who will be in Summer School or an academic class. Last year no one was so I could have practice in the early afternoon. I would prefer this since it is often very hot in the summer. I need to know now so I can reserve the gym ahead of time. Please let me know today if your daughter plans on attending summer school or a class so I can attempt to schedule practices.

Also the girls will need to pick up an athletic clearance packet in my room next week. In that packet there is a physical form. Clearance is needed before your daughter can practice. YOU WILL NOT PRACTICE WITHOUT CLEARANCE. The school holds physicals for 425 cash only on May 16th and 23rd. You are also welcome to see your own doctor and have them fill out the form if you choose. Again, they can pick these up in my room NEXT WEEK. If you go to the school physical clearance will be issued there, and Coach Armstrong will have your name on file. If you go to another Dr. you will need to turn all forms in to Coach Armstrong yourself. PLEASE do not interrupt his football practice in the summer to do so. His office is next to the gym across from the pool, or you can put it in his box in the office.

NO ONE SHOULD BE WEARING A CHILD SIZE SHORT. I have had many issues with girls wearing shorts WAY too small and I will not tolerate it. Cheer shorts are the only acceptable shorts for practice. Some of the girls need to be wearing a larger short, please use your best judgment with this. Soffe shorts are NOT meant to be tight like bike shorts!!!

You will also need a skort and it MUST BE THIS ONE FROM THIS SITE IN NAVY!

If you have one from last year, it is the same skort! No need to get extra, or new shorts or skorts if you have them already!

Important Cheer Dates

IMPORTANT DATES TO WRITE ON YOUR CALENDAR-

Cheer practice to start tentatively in May on Mondays from 3-5 until the end of the year at LQHS in the mini gym.

Cheer Break June 11-15 and August 6-10 and August 20-23. Schedule as many vacations here as possible.

Summer practices will most likely be Tuesday and Wednesdays in the afternoon. I will have to finalize with coaches and make sure our gym is available before finalizing.

August 24th is our first football game, before school starts.

Work week August 13-16. Work week is VERY IMPORTANT. We get ready for football season, learn cheers, finalize stunts, and so on… you may not miss these days!

DUE DATES- MUST BE MET!!

Monday April 16th- $55 Camp deposit before the end of the school day.

May 30th at 5 in P-11-uniform fitting. Full payment is due at the time of the fitting or the uniform will not be ordered. I will schedule times for this, please contact me if you need to have a specific time.

Tuesday June 5th before the end of the school day $445 camp remainder.
